Selected work
Real questions from real, published projects — the problem a team brought, the approach we took, and what it made possible, from study design through to publication, HTA, and regulatory submissions. Each is led by a named expert; more are in preparation.
Several draw on Swedish national register data — see real-world evidence for how those studies are run. Want work relevant to your own question? Get in touch and we'll share what's closest to your setting.
Applied research
Real published work from the team, written up as the problem, the approach, and what it enables.
Fair, risk-adjusted survival comparisons across hospitals and surgeons
RDA developed a multilevel-survival method that compares hospitals, surgeons, and centres fairly by standardising over a common case mix — published in BMC Medical Research Methodology, with an accompanying Stata command.

Alessandro Gasparini, then at RDA, led the survival analysis on a national study of 1.2 million Medicare patients: flexible parametric models, regression standardisation, and an instrumental-variable design showed an apparent survival benefit of multiarterial grafting may be confounding rather than cause. Published in JACC.

RDA's Sara Ekberg and Michael Crowther brought joint longitudinal–survival modelling to a study of PSA dynamics in metastatic prostate cancer — each doubling of the PSA decline rate linked to a 29% lower risk of death. Published in European Urology Oncology.
Read the case study →Counting recurrent events when death gets in the way
RDA-led methods development (Entrop & Crowther): a new parametric model that estimates the mean number of recurrent events — hospitalisations, infections, recurrences — over time while correctly accounting for competing events such as death. Published in Biometrical Journal.

RDA's Sara Ekberg and Michael Crowther used multi-state modelling — built on their own Stata merlin and multistate packages — to estimate the real-world chance of lasting remission after diffuse large B-cell lymphoma in 2,941 Swedish patients. Published in British Journal of Cancer.
